Don Lorenzo Elìa our Parish Priest:

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the English language site for the church of Saint Rocco in Ceglie Messapica Southern Italy.

Ceglie Messapica is a beautiful city with a wonderful historic centre. Reports of the city's existence go back 1600 years before the time of Christ.

We have a growing number of tourists visiting us each year as well as a number of English speaking residents in both the city and the lovely countryside that surrounds us.

We pride ourselves on the welcome we offer to visitors both to the city and our church which is one of 4 parish churches in Ceglie Messapica. Everyone is welcome to join us for any of our masses. Times are shown on this site.

Although our services are in Italian we do provide some information in English including mass sheets in both English and Italian. Additionally we have an English catholic priest based here, Father Giorgio Miles, who offers mass in English every Sunday in the ancient church of St Anna here in the parish. Details of these are always on this site. You can request updates on English language activities via the English Ministry page on this site.

We are very fortunate to have an excellent music tradition here with a very gifted choir. There is normally music at all of our services each day.

Please enjoy this site and let us know if there is anything you would like to see here or if we can be of assistance to you.

The festival takes place on the 16th and 17th August each year. The statue of St Rocco is carried around the streets of Ceglie from the church to the mother church of Ceglie on the 16th after the main mass (normally celebrated by the bishop)

On the 17th the statue is carried back to the church following a route through the historical part of the city.
